Dress Rehearsal will begin at the start time indicated above inside the auditorium at Hagee Communication Center on your designated day. (See heading above for the day your performer will rehearse.)
Arrive with hair and makeup done and all costumes/costume pieces ready to wear. Plan to arrive 5-10 min. early if you will be putting your dancer’s costume on at the venue. We will begin promptly at the start time above, and you will miss important information if you are in the restroom dressing your dancer.
Ensure your dancer has all necessary costume pieces, accessories, and shoes for dress rehearsal (see Costume Details sheet). The photographer will be present during rehearsals to capture images on stage.
Students will NOT have a backstage helper for dress rehearsal, so please make sure you or someone else stays to help them change.
There are spacious restrooms in the lobby and on either side of the auditorium that may be used for changing. Young dancers are welcome to change inside the auditorium if comfortable.
No food or drinks are permitted inside the auditorium, but dancers may bring and eat quick snacks in the lobby between dances if necessary.
Dancers may leave after they rehearse their final dance.
Please Note: It is required for all dancers to wear a tan, thin strap leotard under all costumes. You can order one on Nimbly by clicking here or purchase a similar one at another retailer.
RECITAL DAY-OF PROCEDURE
Backstage & What to Bring
We will have backstage helpers for your child so you can sit back and enjoy the show. Please bring your dancer dressed in their first costume with hair and makeup done. Refer to the Order of Show to find your dancer’s first number and the Costume Details spreadsheet (linked under Costumes section) to see all costume details.
All other costumes, dance shoes, and properly colored tights should be on hangers or in a bag or small suitcase. Please make sure to label EVERYTHING, including the bag, tights, shoes, accessories, and any personal items, such as water bottles, with your dancer’s name. Do NOT bring any valuable or special personal items from home, as these things tend to get lost in the backstage shuffle.
Check-In/Out
At call time (see below), you will check your dancer in at the designated Check-In table in the long hallway on the north side of the auditorium. Only ONE caregiver should be in the Check-In area to ensure a quick and safe process.
Call Times
9:00 AM Recital: Call time will be 8:30 AM for students.
11:30 AM Recital: Call time will be 11:00 AM for students.
2:00 PM Recital: Call time will be 1:15 PM for students.
4:30 PM/6:30 PM Recital: Call time will be 3:45 PM for students.
Check back soon for specific instructions for each level.
*All students must stay for the entire length of their show(s) unless Danceworks staff has been previously notified. If a circumstance requires your dancer to leave before the end of their show, please notify us IN WRITING before dress rehearsal.
COSTUMES
It is required for all dancers to wear a tan, thin strap leotard under all costumes. Please wear tights on the outside of this leotard. In other words, the tan leotard is the first layer. You can order one on Nimbly by clicking the button below or purchase a similar one at another retailer.
Please label EVERYTHING with your dancer’s name, including tights, accessories, and shoes! To see each dancer’s costume details (linked image of costume, tights, shoes, and accessories), click the button below.
Shoes and tights may be ordered through our online store Nimbly. Alternatively, you may purchase from a retailer of your choice. Suggestions include Amazon (Capezio Tights: Colors-Ballet Pink & Suntan), or going to local dance stores such as Dancewear Etc. in Cedar Hill.
Please ensure your costumes are wrinkle-free by recital time. We know it is tempting for your dancers, especially younger ones, to play in their costumes. We highly recommend having one "fashion show" for your family and then placing the costume on a hanger in a closet until dress rehearsal.
If you have pets, take special care to protect your costumes (shiny sequins and fluffy tutus can look quite tempting to furry friends!).
HAIR & MAKEUP
It is important that dancers have the correct hair and make up for recital. Please make sure that hair and makeup are done BEFORE coming to the venue as dressing room space is limited.
Makeup
Makeup is a must for all dancers in all dance performances. Stage lights tend to wash out facial features, but makeup helps to mitigate that effect. Basic makeup requirements are:
neutral color eye shadow (shades of brown)
cheek color
lip color (shades of pink or red)
black mascara (optional for younger students)
black eyeliner (optional for younger students)
Hair
All dancers will be required to wear their hair in a ballet bun for all dances. Refer to the Costume Details spreadsheet for any hair accessories your dancer should have for each dance.
We are selling bun kits for $10 each. Each kit includes a brush, hair elastics, hairpins, a hairnet, and hairspray. Order yours by clicking the button below, and pick it up at the front desk.
For ballet buns, the bun should be placed on the middle or low part of the back of the head. Click the buttons below to see tutorial videos for making a perfect ballet bun! The goal is a bun that resembles a cinnamon roll (not a doorknob or a donut).
Note: The detailed tutorial specifies creating a middle part. Our dancers are welcome to do a middle part or no part (comb the hair straight back).
PRACTICE VIDEOS
Coming Soon!
Practice Anytime, Anywhere!
Our instructors are uploading videos of each class dance so your dancer can practice at home. Just click the button below to access the video folder—and keep checking back! We’ll be adding new videos regularly.
If your dancer is in Levels A-4 and has to miss a class, it’s super important they watch the video and catch up on any choreography they missed. Regular attendance makes a big difference, especially as we get closer to recital time. Thanks for helping us make sure your dancer feels confident and ready to shine on stage!

TICKETS

We offer reserved seating so that you can choose your exact location in the auditorium. Tickets start at $12 each. Children 2 and under do not need a ticket unless they will need a seat in the auditorium. Doors will open 30 minutes before the show (8:30am, 11:00am, 1:30pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm). Tickets will also be available for purchase onsite the day of the show.
We understand that ticket costs can be a consideration for families, and we want to be transparent about why we charge admission for our Nutcracker Tea and Spring Recital events.
Producing high-quality, memorable performances for our dancers and their families requires a significant investment in both time and resources. Your ticket purchase helps cover many of the essential elements that make our shows so special, including:
Theatrical venue rental to provide a beautiful, professional setting for our dancers to shine
Vetted backstage childcare, so parents can fully enjoy the performance knowing their children are safe and supported
Skilled lighting and sound technicians who create a polished, seamless experience
A keepsake video of the show, included with your ticket, so your family can enjoy the performance for years to come
A professional photographer who captures beautiful moments and offers downloadable photos for a minimal fee
Continued pay for our dedicated faculty and staff, who work tirelessly behind the scenes and onstage to ensure each dancer feels confident, prepared, and proud
We strive to keep ticket prices reasonable while still offering a high-caliber experience that honors the work of our dancers and staff. Our goal is to create events that are not only performances, but cherished memories for the entire family. Tickets for the Nutcracker Tea start at $20. Tickets for Spring Recital start at $12. Thank you for supporting your dancer and our Danceworks community by helping make these productions possible.
